Hanging Out

"That was uncalled for mutt" I said frowning now.

"I guess he's allowed his opinion," I said, getting up and running along the treaty line into the forest.

I followed, running faster to catch her up. "If you don't mind me asking, what was your fault?" I asked.

I ignored her at first, heading up a tree half a mile away from the others. I curled up in a bunch of branches, tears rolling down my cheeks. "My mother died," I buried my face in my arms. "She died giving birth to me, right after Rylie was born. Jamie blames me, and I'm sure Rylie does too, even if he's good at hiding it."

"I frowned, Why would that be your fault?" I asked.

I looked up from my arms. "Because if I'd never been born then mom wouldn't have died." Fresh tears broke out.

I sighed, "You can't help not being born, some mom's die from birth of a child, some don't but one thing is that it's not your fault." I answered

"Jamie doesn't think so, neither does Jacob." I jumped down from the tree. "Even before I'd had a minute on Earth, I'd destroyed someone's life. That's pretty impressive, even for me."

I frowned, "Things happen for reasons" I said and then froze when I heard what I had said.

I barely heard her. I imagined what my mom would be like if I hadn't been born. She'd be happy with her children. Jamie and Rylie.

"That didn't help did it?" I said.

"Not really," I answered truthfully. "Don't worry. I'm used to it. I get it from the pack all the time. I do something to annoy them, they think of my mom."

"Come on" I said holding my hand out before pulling it back.

I half-smiled at her, knowing she had the best intentions.

"We should get back" I said smiling.

I glanced back towards the others. "Do we have to?" I thought about how hard or easy it might be to do the wolfy-quit thing now. Soon. So soon that I wouldn't have to hear Jacob Black's thoughts again.

"You could sit on our side of the line?" I said.

I laughed once and held out my hand as Rosalie had hers.

I laughed and took her hand, pulling her up onto her feet.

I smiled and walked with her back to the group of people. Jacob grinned at me as if nothing had happened. I just looked at the others. Seth smiled sympathetically and Becca was no where in sight. When we reached them, I asked Seth. "Where's Becca?" He just replied with, "I don't know. She just laughed and took off abotu two minutes ago." "Hmm." I shrugged and took Becca's seat on the Cullen side of the treaty line.

" one second, i need to go find Becca" i said and got up, i followed her scent. I pulled out my phone to text her.

I looked at Rosalie as if to say 'you're going to leave me with him?'.

Becca text Rosalie back telling her to stay there.

"No, I am staying." I said sitting down and smiling. "Don't worry about it Tegan, you should know it wasn't" I added.

I smiled and brought my knees up, resting my elbows on them and picking at the grass.

I crossed my legs and didn't move, the only thing that was moving was my lungs, taking in the air that I didn't need.
